Discovery Centre
The Discovery Centre is the "Learning Hub" of our school! It is a constantly changing environment with new books, displays, competitions and activities tying in with school wide topics.
It is staffed by Barbara Currie (Library Manager), Clisa Tait (Resource Manager) and Lyn Tocher (ICT Manager). Our students use the library independently and know that there are trained staff there to support them and guide them in their research.
Our Discovery Centre is also supported by trained student librarians from Year 6. Our student librarians are trained and guided by Grannie. Students are able to use the Discovery Centre during break times. The Discovery Monitors run a variety of computer programmes for all ages which the children look forward to. Discovery Monitors receive training on a Thursday afternoon with the lead Discovery Teacher, Vicki Perry.
Story Time with Grannie is a popular event held every Wednesday at break one, where new books are introduced to the children. The library runs the Scholastic Book Club and twice each term the leaflets will be sent home for you to order from - there is no obligation to do this - and the children then return the forms to the library. We purchase a number of these books for our library and find this scheme encourages our children to extend their reading. We are planning a Book Fair this year so keep watching for the newletters - there will be a Fancy Costume Day as these have always been popular and give the Discovery Team an excuse to dress up.
