Deb Cooke
Principal
It is a real privilege to be the principal of Maungawhau School. I gain much pleasure from witnessing the enjoyment, enthusiasm and success children experience with their learning and in their school day. It is an honour to work with such dedicated and professional staff and to have the support of a superb group of parents who are committed to their children’s education and to making our school the best it can be. Maungawhau School will celebrate its Centenary in 2012 and I feel proud that the values of excellence, innovation, pride in our school environment and forward thinking apply as much today as they did when the school first opened. Despite societal and global changes Maungawhau has a reputation for being an excellent school and one held in high regard. It is my aim that this will continue during my time here as principal.

Olwen Blain
Deputy Principal
I have responsibility for the Junior School (Whanake), Curriculum and Resourcing. I particularly enjoy working with younger children especially in reading, writing and discovery topics. I love to see the children becoming increasingly independent and involved in the learning process. The goal of our team is to provide a happy, secure, inspiring learning environment which will support the children in becoming the best they can be.

Denise Faloon
Deputy Principal and SENCO (Special Needs Co-ordinator)
I joined the Senior Leadership Team in 2010. Prior to this I worked as an Educational Psychologist for MOE but I love being back in a school. As Deputy Principal I have responsibility for Matauranga, the Senior School. In my role as SENCO I work closely with external agencies and other specialists to ensure our students access the supports they need. I also assist teachers with differentiation, assessment, professional development, special examination conditions, and Individual Education Plans. I also enjoy managing our dedicated team of Learning Support Assistants. My other passion is sports and I support Martin with organising and coordinating sporting opportunities.

Wendy Hunt

I have been in my role here at Maungawhau since 2003 when I moved from banking which I had been involved in for most of my working life. I am responsible for the smooth running of the front office and the school finances. I also assist Deb with property and personnel matters, am Minute Secretary to Board of Trustees, and I am also involved with fundraising throughout the school. I have two daughters and both have attended Maungawhau School. As a family, we feel very fortunate to have been involved with Maungawhau School and the wider community.
