Learning Support Services
We offer a range of support services that facilitate our students in developing their learning potential. We have listed a few here, but feel free to ask for more details of what we have to offer your child.
Bannatyne Literacy Support Programme :
Many students in the Whanake team benefit from extra literacy support through the Bannatyne programme.
The Steps Learning Staircase:
This New Zealand-based programme has a strong emphasis on vocabulary and language development to help students progress with their spelling and reading.
Writing Labs:
Writing support is responsive to both the needs of students and teachers. It varies in format from term to term and is largely for Matauranga and Waipuna students.
Text Capture/Touch Typing Programme:
The school is supporting local research as it trials text capture devices. These devices provide students with an opportunity to develop and improve their keyboard skills.
Maths Support:
Targeted learning support in maths is provided in class using New Zealand developed programmes of support that focus on developing math knowledge.
Gifted and Talented Programmes:
There are a range of opportunities for students to develop their gifts and talents in school. The range and number of opportunities is dependent to some extent on local community involvement and expertise.
