FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Sadly our Principal Delanee Dale’s mother passed away on Sunday night. Our thoughts are with her and her family at this time.
In 2017 our very dedicated Joanna Simpson and her team of EnviroWarriors entered a competition to raise awareness for recycling in our community. They successfully setup an Oral Care Waste drop-off bin at the school and were one of the lucky schools who won a Recycled Garden Bed. Today, acknowledgment of their excellent efforts were made by Liz Keen and Anais Le Marc from TerraCycle Australia and New Zealand who have gifted our school a Garden Bed which sits nicely in our junior courtyard and compliments our Garden to Table programme. The Oral Care Waste programme continues to run at the school and you can recycle any of your oral care waste products in the bin by the office.
A special thank you to Rita Johnson (teacher in Room 6) who last Friday 9 March organised our highly successful school fundraiser to support Tonga following the widespread destruction caused by Cyclone Gita. Many thanks to the parents, children and staff who donated to this cause with an outstanding final result of over one thousand dollars raised! Proceeds will be going to Mordi Tonga who encourage local people to become more sustainable in their work so they do not need to be so reliant on aid from other countries. Through this, Mordi are working with people who are subsistence farmers and many locals who are living in poverty. A reminder that children and teachers have been busy preparing for our annual Goal Setting Evening which is scheduled for this Tuesday 13 March and Thursday 14 March. It is not too late to book, you can do this by clicking on the link provided below.
Congratulations to all the children who were selected to represent our school at the Eden Albert Cricket Zone tournament this Tuesday 13 March. Thank you also to Martin Rodwell who has been coaching these teams, we wish you and the children all the very best for a successful tournament.
Please also be aware that while Mitch is away on sick leave we are lucky to have two caretakers who have worked at Maungawhau in the past to help out in the meantime. We welcome back Ross Hopewell and Grant Shattock.
