Dear Parents and Caregivers

My thanks to the parents of our newest Year 0 class in Room 12, for attending last Monday morning’s Powhiri in the hall. This was a wonderful occasion, to formally welcome these families to our school. We intend scheduling this to occur every term, to welcome new families to our school.

My thanks to the team of Lisa Byrnes Whiting, Shane Whiting, Ditta De Boni, Ali Ikram, Karen & Richard Bouzaid, Suzanne Roberts, Brodie & Brendan Lawry, Jacqui & Dan Anderson for organising and running the adult Quiz night in our school hall last Friday night. I hear that it went very well, in terms of fun, and was a successful fundraiser. A huge thank you on behalf of our Board of Trustees, and staff for all of your hard work.

We wish all of our Matauranga Senior School students all the best for their Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) week, next week. Our Year 5 students have day trips to Snowplanet, Paradice Ice Rink, Corban Estate Art Centre and the North Shore Millennium Centre. Our Year 6 students and their teachers are going to Camp Adair, in Hunua. A huge thank you to the many parents who have taken leave to support their children next week, which allows this type of learning to occur.

A reminder that we are having our once a year Teacher only Day this Friday. School is closed for the day. OSCAR is operating on this day, for families who need it. Please see the flyer and registration form below.

Have a great week,
Delanee Dale

Thanks so much to everyone who came along and joined in the fun last Friday for Quiz Night. Congrats to the quiz team winners The Emerald Einsteins. The costumes were fantastic.  The collection of photos from the photo booth are super, so if you didn’t get your copy emailed to you and would like one, please email with your team name and she’ll send the collection of photos for that team to you. We hope everyone enjoyed the night. We are still doing final tally, but we think we raised approximately $7k on the night so massive thanks to everyone on that. A gentle reminder that if you had an IOU at the bar (due to the eftpos hiccup), please pop along to the office to settle that this week. See you all next year.

On Thursday 6 September we will have our Student-Led Conferences for our year 4 – 6 students.
This will follow the same format as last year, we will be hosting 4 families at a time, in half hour slots. The purpose of this format is to give children an opportunity to share their work, reflect on what they have been learning and give families the opportunity to have more time in the classroom to celebrate their children’s learning.
Each student will be carefully stationed around the classroom, to allow for conversations to take place around their work and time for teachers to participate in these conversations. Children have worked hard during the year to produce some fantastic work. These conferences are an opportunity for them to share what they have achieved and what they are working towards.
If you wish to have a private conversation about your child’s learning please email their teacher directly to set up an appointment.

Bookings are now open.
To make your booking please go to

Creative Matters art classes after school at Maungawhau School
Tuesdays 3pm – 5pm, right here at school beginning in term 4
Our popular, well respected after school art workshops are run at schools all around Auckland by passionate, experienced artists/teachers. All of our tutors are practising artists or designers who are involved in the arts community in different ways, and they all share a passion for encouraging creativity in children. Our classes fully develop the creative process, from exploring and experimenting through to creating and reflecting. We provide opportunities and experiences to help children get excited about the visual arts, encourage creative and critical thinking and develop skills and techniques in a wide range of areas – all in a calm, positive, happy, nurturing environment. The best possible after school activity for your children!
